Hochstein- Skiing area for sport connoisseurs

After riding in a modern cable car or 6-seater chairlift, you hover further above the winter forest in a retro double chairflift. The third section has the only ski tractor in the region. Don't worry, though, it's worth it. Whoever reaches the top is rewarded with one of the best and longest pistes in the Alps.

This beautifully prepared world cup slope is exciting for all skiers with an average niveau. While elsewhere the crowds ski over boring snow runs, here you can leave the crowds behind and glide over knolls excellent slopes. Pure skiing is guaranteed over a kilometre long piste until your legs are aching. The town draws closer and closer until reaching the last section, you know how the ski aces feel during the world cup when tey ar cheered as they make the last turn directly in Lienz.

For real Hochstein fans the mountain has a fourth section which can't be reached by lifts. After leaving the last lift station, whoever manages to tackle a couple of small knolls will suddenly find themselves in front of the Hochstein hut balanced on the peak of the mountain.

Here is a breath-taking 360 degrees view over the Puster valley, Isel valley and the Lienz valley. Many local people manage to reach the Hochstein hut from the valley, a difference of 1,200 metres, with tour skis. They climb with skins on their skis  through the romantic winter forest and then ski down the perfect piste towards home, enjoying the last rays of the afternoon sun. That is ski 'n' the cit at its best!
